PAINTING + MIXED MEDIA
Ellen Heck holds degrees from Brown University and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is currently living and working as a fine art printmaker in North Carolina. From 2009 to 2015, she worked as an artist-in-residence at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, California. Her work is often figurative and project-based.
With recent print portfolios and projects, I have focused on themes of identity, the multiple, individuality, and variation. Using the printmaking process to highlight these concepts, which are referenced both in subject matter and medium, I hope to engage the viewer on several levels. TheLonely Hearts series, currently on view, pairs heart symbols with the faces and hands of young people personifying ways in which this emotion can be felt, given, and shown.
