This body of work represents the onset of spring. Energetic brushwork and bold color application symbolize a new season and new life. However, there is also a quiet intimacy to the pieces… a delicate awakening of sorts.
My work is based on an initial idea or vision. I use some references in the process, but my most successful moments in painting happen when I stop trying to focus on replicating things exactly as I see them and instead let the work come from within. Through careful composition, I edit as I move through the work, sometimes stripping down details, uncovering strength in the subtlety that remains. Adding, editing, allowing color interaction to happen, letting the painting take it’s own direction… that is when I truly emerge as an artist.
