Montreal-based painter Scott Addis will lead a three-day workshop this August focused on creating atmosphere, emotion, and mood within landscape painting. Celebrated for his masterful use of light, nuanced color palette, and ability to evoke a strong sense of place, Addis brings a thoughtful approach to painting that balances observation with interpretation.

This workshop centers on learning to truly see a landscape and simplify a scene to its essential elements. Through discussions and demonstrations focused on light, composition, color, atmosphere, and paint handling, participants will explore a painting process designed to create stronger, more emotionally resonant work while leading to measurable artistic growth.

Equally important is the spirit of experimentation and play within the creative process. Addis encourages curiosity, looseness, and discovery, fostering an engaging and supportive studio environment where participants can deepen both their technical understanding and personal voice while genuinely enjoying the process.
Open to artists of all levels, from advanced beginners to experienced painters seeking to deepen their approach to landscape painting. A recommended supply list will be provided in advance. The workshop will take place alongside the artist’s new exhibition at the gallery, overlooking Middlebury Falls.

Tickets: $400 per student
Includes light lunch Friday and Saturday
