GREGORY BERNHARDT
PAINTING + MIXED MEDIA
ARTIST BIO
Gregory Bernhardt is an artisanal cheesemaker and farmer at Blue Ledge Farm, which he and his wife, Hannah Sessions, established in Addison County, Vermont in 2000.
I graduated from Bates College in Maine with a double major in Studio Art, concentrating in Painting, and English with a concentration in Creative Writing. Ever since then, I have sought to have a creative, yet hands-on, life. Deciding to work with the land and animals was the practical foundation of it all. Making Artisanal and Farmstead Cheese would not only provide for our financial needs, but become the central and creative focus of our life. It is out of this life we’ve created for ourselves, that my paintings have come about. Whether images of animals, cheese or the landscape, it is my daily life that I wanted to record. These grounding endeavors have been my greatest influence. But buried underneath this intention to represent and record the place and things I know best, is the hope that others will enjoy my images as much as they do visiting our animals and cheese caves.
