MOLLY DOE WENSBERG

PAINTING + MIXED MEDIA

ARTIST BIO

Located in rural NH, Molly Wensberg looks to her surrounding landscape for inspiration, celebrating its rugged nature, constant variety in color, and unique texture. After studying art at Skidmore College, Wensberg stepped into the art world as a tapestry weaver in 1982. Starting her career in textiles, she learned to ‘paint with wool,’ and eventually switched to painting on canvas in 1997. Her love of nature and the outdoors is evident in her landscape paintings, which she often starts with a plein air study. Though representational in style, her aim is to paint the emotion of a place rather than focusing on specific landmarks. Honoring the concept that less is more, Wensberg believes that what is left out of the painting is as important as what is put in, that in the strategic absence of information the viewer is invited to fill the gaps with their own emotion.
