ABOUT THE ARTIST
Emma grew up on the east coast of England, where her love of landscape was cultivated, and she has now lived in New England for over twenty years. She received her MA in textile design from the Royal College of Art in London, where she explored pattern, layering, and color—elements that continue to shape her artistic practice. After moving to the United States, she discovered encaustic painting, a medium that immediately resonated with her and has remained central to her work ever since.
My work is inspired by the cyclical rhythms of nature—growth and decay, movement and stillness, beauty and fragility. These enduring patterns inform my exploration of color, texture, and layered surface.
Working in encaustic, I build and refine layers of wax and pigment, at times scraping back to reveal what lies beneath. This process echoes the strata of the natural world, where time, erosion, and renewal shape the landscape. The luminous depth of encaustic allows me to convey both the physical and emotional textures of nature. Through intentional layering and subtle shifts of color, I seek to reflect the quiet complexity of the landscape and its balance between transience and permanence.
