LARRY HOROWITZ

ARTIST BIO & STATEMENT
Larry Horowitz is an American landscape painter born in 1956 in New York City. He graduated from SUNY Purchase and immediately became an apprentice to Wolf Kahn. Horowitz currently shows in galleries across the United States and Canada. His work is in many major corporate and private collections. He has participated in the Arts-In-Embassies program in Iceland and Russia. Horowitz’s work captures the beauty of the American landscape with an expert use of texture and color that invites imagination and discovery. Although known as a landscape painter, he has a firm grounding in abstract expressionism through his education with former students from the Bauhaus and Hans Hofmann school. He has combined both points of view to develop his own unique language.
Painting is like peeling the layers of an onion. The painting goes through a metamorphosis. The artist tries different things, adding and subtracting colors and patterns, to get to the painting’s inner truth. A piece is finished when the painting develops a heartbeat and the artist has nothing more to say. Whether I am painting a bucolic Vermont hillside, the dunes of the Cape, or somewhere else entirely, my personal language reveals itself in surprising and unexpected ways.
