MARY MELINA WELLSANDT

I have loved creating art since I was around 3 years old. In all the many years since then my work has taken many forms, but this iteration has filled my time, energy, heart, and soul for the past 15-20 years. I am proud that it continues to evolve year by year!

My current work uses functional glass as a canvas for my original drawings, paintings, and photographs to be rendered in a very unique and detailed way, utilizing a sandblaster to carve the images into the glass, and permanent archival paints to amplify the magic you see in the pieces. Each piece is created meticulously, individually, and with countless layers and steps. As you inspect the pieces you will see many layers of detail, and I invite you to imagine my assistants and me sitting, painting, chatting, and laughing together, often at the antics of my amazing kitty (named “Dog”).
