Birds have played a significant role in all cultures throughout the centuries. They have been symbols of freedom and independence, and omens of good or bad luck. They have also been symbols of love, peace, transformation and rebirth.
In this workshop you will have the opportunity to explore your relationship with birds as you work creating your own unique bird. During the first class students will be making birds using 3 different hand building techniques: pinch, coil and slab. Susan will demonstrate each technique and then the fun begins!
During the second class you will be painting your creations using different types of glaze. Susan will also be demonstrating many ways to apply the glaze and talking about the firing process.

Artist Statement:
Clay is earth with the barest of refinements—dust that holds form. I feel working with clay connects me to source. Clay is always elemental, in all shapes and firings, and I have used that rooted quality to anchor my light hearted creations of birds and goats. Both these animals have been fellow travelers in my life, spirits I’ve shared my home with.
