Edgewater Gallery presents a duo exhibition featuring the abstract paintings of Sara Katz and the ceramic vessels of Nicholas Bernard. Sara Katz draws on her childhood in Cabot, Vermont, where she grew up on a vegetable farm and nursery. That connection to land, combined with her intuitive sense of motion and memory, gives rise to paintings that transform scenes of nature into compositions that evoke the innate energy of the landscape. Though similar in their bold, distinctive painterly quality, Nicholas Bernard’s ceramic forms present an elegant strength, infused with rich texture. Influenced by sources ranging from ancient Mediterranean pottery to indigenous traditions, Bernard unites a timeless and refined surface detail with contemporary designs and bold color.
Placed side by side, Katz’s sweeping visions of the landscape and Bernard’s vessels of strength and texture invite viewers into a shared space of abstraction.
