Spend a winter evening at The Pitcher Inn as we present an artist talk and discussion with ceramicist Ethan Quillen followed by a fine dining experience at the inn’s acclaimed restaurant.

Ethan Quillen’s longtime fascination with clay eventually won out over a career in academics. His interest in mid-century architecture and the art deco led to a body of work that is rooted in tradition but also experimentation. He blends form with function and an element of chance plays a role due to the variety of clays Quillen uses and the application of wet slip to each piece as it is turned on the wheel. The wetness of the clay and the constant motion allow for an unpredictability as forms drip and shift. His use of Raku firing adds further interest as crackled surfaces emerge from the embers. Guests are asked to arrive between 5:00 and 5:30 PM. Drink and dinner orders are taken before the talk begins. At 5:45 our artist will give a presentation that will give insight into their path to becoming an artist, their process and their inspirations. Guests are encouraged to ask questions! The discussion is followed by dinner. Ethan will join us as we savor a meal especially prepared by the Pitcher Inn’s chef.
