Event Details

On view for the months of January and February at Edgewater Gallery on the Green, a collection of winter scenes from painter Kathleen Kolb. The gallery is pleased to welcome Kolb to the Edgewater community and to introduce her work with these scenes of the Vermont winter landscape, a subject for which the artist feels a particular fondness. Kolb writes about her depictions of the Vermont winter:
Painting these successfully comes from much looking, experimenting, and struggling. Snow is a lot like water. It reflects the sky, but taken down a register or two.”  Kolb says she is looking for that “emotional gut reaction” or “emotional ignition”. “That’s how people first encounter a painting, with emotions, she says, “so I try to start a work from the same place.

Kathleen Kolb is widely recognized and admired in Vermont and New England not only for her technical ability to render the Vermont landscape and the structures that live in our fields, mountains and valleys, but also for her talent in conveying the sentiments that lie within these scenes of pastoral life.
