Kathryn Milillo: As It Were

Kathryn Milillo’s solo exhibition “As It Were” will be on view for the month of May with an opening reception May 10th from 5-7pm at our Gallery on The Green. Calling upon the archaic nature of Vermont’s weather-beaten barns and buildings, “As It Were” conjures the nostalgia of time passing and the inevitability of change. “I see that we are paving paradise,” Milillo says of her new body of work “I’ve been in a subjunctive mood this year, painting this world as it is, and as I wish it were.”

By indulging in a prolonged ‘discussion’ with each of her paintings, Milillo discovers something new in her analysis of the old. By scumbling oil paint in layers she creates color chords that reignite her aging subject matter, reorienting their great history in the present moment.
