Some places stay with us long after we have left them. They soften at the edges, their details giving way to feeling until memory itself becomes a kind of landscape.

Near Enough to Dream brings together the work of Victoria Blewer and Dietlind Vander Schaaf, two artists whose practices move between observation and recollection. Though working in distinct mediums, both create images that resist straightforward description, inviting viewers into spaces where memory, atmosphere, and emotion become inseparable.

Victoria Blewer’s hand-colored photographs begin with the familiar—Vermont barns, quiet roads, birds, and fields—but are transformed through layers of color that shift documentary photography toward something more lyrical. Her images possess the quality of remembered places, where light carries an emotional weight beyond what the eye first perceives. They feel less like documents than recollections.

Dietlind Vander Schaaf approaches landscape from the opposite direction, beginning where representation dissolves. Her encaustic surfaces become emotional landscapes of interior geography, built through texture, silence, color, and references to contemplation. She describes them as the place “where the inner landscape and the outer landscape meet.”

Together, these works exist in the fertile space between the external world and our inner lives. One artist begins with place and arrives at feeling; the other begins with feeling and arrives at place.
