Edgewater Gallery at the Falls, One Mill Street, Middlebury

Abstract painter Sara Katz presents a series of new large works on panel this February at Edgewater Gallery at the Falls. Katz’s work is informed by her agricultural background, interest in the natural world and Japanese heritage. She finds that painting abstractly most successfully conveys the feelings she has for a place or for a botanical form. She works with a palette drawn from the natural world, varied mark making, and simplified forms from the landscape and botanical world to create her dynamic and bold compositions.

Sara Katz was born in South Jersey in 1977 and subsequently grew up in Cabot, Vermont on a vegetable farm/greenhouse and nursery that was her family’s business. She spent her childhood working in the business with her two brothers. She received her undergraduate degree from Skidmore College where she focused on painting and has her studio in Ferrisburgh Vermont.
