TRANSLATIONS
A TWO PERSON EXHIBITION FEATURING
DALE JAJARIAN & DIETLIND VANDER SCHAAF
MARCH 21st – APRIL 26th, 2025
OPENING RECEPTION: APRIL 11th | 5:00PM – 6:30PM
Edgewater Gallery at the Falls, One Mill Street, Middlebury
An act of translation can help us interpret our place in the everyday. We undergo a dance to move from one context to another, in a constant motion of our lives. Occasionally, we’ll be impacted by something that captivates our attention, inspiring contemplation on the world outside our busy minds. Sunlight falls through the trees in a golden light; the clouds bounce off water in a radiant reflection; city lights create a symphony of shadow at your feet. Translations, a two person exhibition on view at Edgewater Gallery at the Falls, highlights these very moments of pause.
This exhibition features artists Dale Najarian and Dietlind Vander Schaaf. Using vastly different approaches to capturing these ephemeral scenes, Dale and Dietlind both translate their everyday observations into visual poetry. Using photography as a guide to her oil paintings, Dale Najarian depicts the patterns of shadow and light. These highly contrasted images depict the rhythm in quiet moments, much like the encaustic wax paintings of Dietlind Vander Schaaf. Dietlind’s interpretation of motion and stillness comes through with textural brush strokes and markings, fused together with heat. Through each of these artist’s perspectives, we are moved between moments in a visual dance of color, texture, and form.
