January 9 – February 17, 2024
Edgewater Gallery on the Green, 6 Merchants Row, Middlebury
In this exhibition we celebrate winter and the quality of light, shadow and color that is unique to the season. The fireworks of the autumn landscape have passed and the bright greens of spring are yet to come but winter carries its own beauty. Vermont photographer Jim Westphalen studies the quality of light, the muted tones of the landscape and the contrast found between the built landscape and the natural one, in our winter season.
New Edgewater artist Dale Najarian’s shadow series merges the realistic quality of a photograph with the abstract translation of a scene. In her paintings, the winter whites and shadows work with the brighter hues of the objects in the compositions to create a shift between the positive and negative space. She explores the perspective that shadows create, and uses figures in motion to capture the ever shifting relationship between light and dark.
We are excited to introduce Dale Najarian to the Edgewater audience. She is an internationally recognised artist working primarily in oils and mixed media. She has a passion for photography and documenting her experiences is an important part of her creative process and a source of inspiration for much of her work. Dale received her BFA from Moore College of Art & Design and worked for over fifteen years as a Graphic Designer and Art Director in NY, Philadelphia and DC.
Dale currently has a studio in Bridgeport CT at Metro Art Studios.
