Holly Harrison is a mixed-media artist who began her training in poetry, and it continues to inform her creative process. Her work combines painting, photography, drawing and collage. Her process is characterized by an interest in pattern and exploring the relationships between different visual elements, and while she is inspired by nature, she tends to work semi-abstractly.
She has a special interest in birds and has created several series with birds as the subject, including a body of work that explores the incredible coordinated flight patterns of starlings. Working in this series prompted her own thoughts about human community and social awareness and how our ability to work together impacts our safety.
Systems of survival exist in every living community from mushrooms to starlings to humans. To me, the way that starlings can coordinate their movements so seamlessly, where each member of the flock is able to flourish within the flow, delivers a sense of hope.
