The light is low, the shadows long, the palette of the landscape has shifted to more neutral shades of gray, brown and white. Winter has settled in, in Vermont. The winter landscape carries with it qualities of serenity, quiet and gentleness. Vermont artist Rory Jackson celebrates the landscape of his place in his latest series of oil paintings that focuses on this season.

“In observational painting we listen with our eyes and hear the land speak its presence. We hear the clouds form, the hymns of light move across the contours of our mountains and valleys. We hold paint with courage and attempt to narrate the quiet changes of the season.
This series was created to honor the transformative stillness of the land as it walks us all into ourselves and the beautiful darkness of winter.”

Rory Jackson’s solo exhibition of winter paintings “Blankets of Renewal” will be on view at The Pitcher Inn in Warren beginning January 11th and running through February 21st. We will celebrate the collection on Thursday January 11th with an opening reception and dinner at the Pitcher Inn, 5:30 – 8:00 PM.
