Edgewater Gallery’s Annual Small Works Exhibition
Edgewater Gallery on the Green, 6 Merchants Row, Middlebury
Edgewater Gallery at the Falls, One Mill Street, Middlebury
In “Define ‘Small’”, our annual small works exhibition we focus on paintings that are small in dimension but highly impactful. Working within the confines of a smaller canvas presents singular challenges to the artists. They must make choices in subject matter, composition, palette and application of their medium to accommodate the limited space. However, along with the challenges of working small, there is the appeal of capturing an idea, making a statement and completing a composition in an intimate space and in less time than might be required of a larger piece. Both galleries will be featuring small works. This year we will introduce the paintings of Larry Horowitz in Define Small and there will be new work from several of our established artists including eleven new small works from Duncan Johnson, and new pieces from Penny Billings, Sara Katz, Kay Flierl, and Sage Tucker Ketchum. “Define ‘Small’” invites viewers to look closely and appreciate the beauty, intimacy and accessibility of fine art done in a small dimension.
