Fine art photographer Jim Westphalen chronicles the venerable structures that stand proudly along the byways of rural America in a body of work that he calls Vanish. His passion to visually preserve these icons of our rural heritage resulted in a series of limited edition photographs that honor the decaying beauty of these structures. In the process of traveling the country, and seeking out these fading barns, silos, schoolhouses, and churches, he realized that beyond the photographs, he wanted to tell a story in film that would further enhance his journey of discovery and explain the importance of his subject matter as it related to the heritage of the rural landscape.

Edgewater Gallery is excited to have the opportunity to partner with the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury to present the premiere screening of “Vanish – Disappearing Icons of Rural America” and to invite you to a cocktail reception immediately following the film at Edgewater Gallery on the Green, 6 Merchants Row, Middlebury. There will be a Q&A session at the theater at the conclusion of the film and the artist will be available during the cocktail reception for a more informal opportunity to hear about the film and his collection of photographs on view at the Edgewater.
